Friday morning members of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce came to visit the new state of the art recycling facility, Action Environmental Solutions, in the Bronx. Action Environmental Solutions is a subsidiary of Action Carting Environmental Services, New York’s premier waste management and recycling company. This material recovery center was set up to further Action’s promise to a cleaner greener New York. Here cardboard and paper are processed for reuse in the manufacturing of new recycled products.

The cardboard and paper that are collected along Action’s routes are brought to the Bronx and dumped at the facility. It is then placed onto a series of conveyer belts where the cardboard and paper are sorted out of the full load. Once the load is sorted by commodity it is then compressed and baled. These bales are then loaded onto the truck and transported to the port where it is loaded onto a ship which brings it to domestic and international markets.

Members of the MCC took a tour and followed the process from where the loads were dumped to where the bales were loaded onto the truck. They showed much enthusiasm of not only the benefits the MRF would bring environmentally, but also due to the fact Action made it a point to hire local employees from the Bronx to better the community.
